ABOUT the Conference

The High Level Conference on the Strategic Partnership between the European Union and Ukraine on Critical Raw Materials and Batteries, hosted by the Ukrainian Government in Kyiv, represents an important milestone in joint efforts between the EU and Ukraine to foster enhanced cooperation on climate change, environmental protection and decarbonisation of energy and mobility systems.

The high potential of Critical Raw Materials reserves in Ukraine, together with the need for a modernisation of the extractive industry underpinned by a conducive legal and administrative framework for investors, represent a solid base for closer cooperation. The partnership builds on the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and the recently opened focused dialogue on green transition.

The signature of the Memorandum of Understanding on the strategic partnership by Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine and Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission will take place during the morning session dedicated to political leaders and International Financial Institutions perspectives. The afternoon session will gather key EU and Ukrainian stakeholders to exchange on how to foster development and attract investment in raw materials and batteries value chains.
